5 Dental Hacks Patients Think Are Healthy, But Actually Aren’t: 1️⃣ Oil pulling instead of seeing a dentist. Oil pulling may reduce bacteria temporarily, but it does not replace professional cleanings or exams. It’s a supplement at best — not a solution. 2️⃣ Whitening with baking soda every day. Baking soda can be abrasive if overused. Daily scrubbing can thin enamel and increase sensitivity long term. 3️⃣ Brushing right after acidic foods. After eating something acidic, enamel is softened. Brushing immediately can actually cause more wear. Waiting about 30 minutes allows enamel to re-harden. 4️⃣ Mouthwash as a substitute for floss. Mouthwash is helpful, but it cannot physically remove plaque between teeth. Mechanical cleaning still matters. 5️⃣ Avoiding treatment because it “doesn’t hurt yet.” The absence of pain doesn’t mean the absence of disease.
